Huddleston Farmhouse Inn & Museum
Working with Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana to fulfill Americans with Disability requirements on this historic National Road property required thoughtful and creative applications of sensitive design and construction effecting pedestrian/auto circulation, site grading and the historic character of the property. The most visible change seen by travelers was the addition of a picket and farm fence atop a new dry stack stone wall that finally provided a degree of safety for visitors touring the lower floor of the house museum, accessed previously along a steep, unprotected embankment adjacent to a busy US 40 highway. Modern requirements like ramps and handrails were detailed to fit comfortably with the surrounding historic structures.
