Historic Fountain Restoration Study
Fountains can be seen as frivolous luxuries, that for all their charm, are expensive to construct and maintain. So it is important to recognize Indy Parks’ stewardship of these valuable historical and cultural amenities. This commissioned study was intended to be the first stage in a three year effort to enhance and preserve the nine 1873/1876 fountains of Woodruff Place, the 1924/1976 Pioneer Family fountain in Fountain Square, and the 1960-1978 fountains of The Ruins in Holliday Park. The history and existing condition of each fountain group were evaluated (hydraulic & electric systems, structure, sculpture, and metal fatigue), design changes and equipment upgrades were proposed, and measured drawings/schematic design sketches and cost forecasts were prepared.
