Fayette County Arts & Science Center
As a cornerstone for child and adult education, Connersville sought to rehabilitate a significant landmark of its industrial manufacturing heritage into a stirring mix of university classrooms, computer learning labs, a ceramic workshop with an outdoor sculpture court, performance spaces, and community rooms. The Center’s site design created opportunities to interpret archaeological evidence of former industrial uses; applied creative stormwater management techniques using native plants; and developed outdoor spaces to promote encounters with art. This work was based on an earlier feasibility and adaptive re-use study we conducted whose focus included, measured drawings, historic research and collection, public workshops, and strategic program development.
