100 Acres: A Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park
Water in the form of Lake, Canal, and River occupies a significant physical presence in this man-altered wooded remnant bottomland. Water also exerts a powerful influence over determining patterns of use across the site including path journeys, building locations, dynamic rain gardens and commissioned site-specific temporary and transitional art. We have worked closely with Ed Blake, founder of The Landscape Studio, in an on-going effort to create a new signature public place, imaging, evolving, and designing an evocative “wild” shadowland of woods, meadows and wetlands that will sharply contrast with the “polished” upland bluff Museum Campus.
