Bend on the Ohio
A bold vision and new chapter in the long history between Mount Vernon and the Ohio River begins with the design of this new 1500 linear foot riverfront promenade. A long abandoned, but sculptural concrete grain elevator, adaptively reused as a professional climbing gym and observation tower, has been proposed as the visual anchor of the town’s new front lawn. A Vision was approved by the community and initial construction has begun of the stepped lawn terraces that stitch the city streets to the river’s edge, invite folks to picnic, play and watch river traffic and initiate a green street program with the installation of a two-stage storm water filtration garden.
